Taryn learning how to batik in Lao Chai

First joining the project in 2010, Taryn has since been on four trips to Vietnam. Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Management and a Diploma in Outdoor Recreation Management, Taryn has built on her experience with CBT Vietnam with multiple community-based tourism development positions throughout Asia.

In Western China, Taryn helped out with marketing and product development for Tibetan minority tourism products. She then moved to Laos to work alongside local government the Community-Based Tourism for Sustainable Economic Development project, a joint initiative by the Lao Tourism Authority and New Zealand Foreign Affairs. Taryn spent a year in Laos with assignments ranging from trekking into remote villages for guide training and English lessons, to designing and training staff for several tourism information centers throughout the country. One of the highlights of her work in Laos was designing and setting up a Visitor Center and War Memorial for the Plain of Jars archeological site in Xieng Kuang province.

Taryn currently lives in Helsinki, furthering her education in Helsinki, Finland – focusing on new media technologies and their role in education and poverty alleviation.
